Buses
Within the San Juan metropolitan area, a public bus system connects the major activity centers and neighborhoods. Bus stops are marked "Parada" or "Parada de Guaguas". The Metropolitan Bus Authority (AMA in Spanish) provides public transportation through routes between 7 municipalities in the Greater San Juan area operating from Monday to Sunday from 4:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Integrated Transportation Alternative (aka ATI) - Urban Train
The ATI- Urban Train (Tren Urbano) is a recently developed 10.7 mile (17.2 km) metro system in Puerto Rico which links the municipalities of San Juan, Bayamón, and Guaynabo. In development since 1997, the Tren Urbano was developed to facilitate transportation within the Greater San Juan Metropolitan Area. Currently, the system is composed of 16 stations, which vary from grade, underground and elevated stations. As part of the Integrated Transportation Alternative, the Tren Urbano is one of many factors that contribute to internal mobility in the Area.

Trolleys
A fun way to get around the charming historical district of San Juan is via one of the free trolleys provided by the Old San Juan Development Corporation. The trolley service runs from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., leaving from the Covadonga public parking facilities. Routes take riders to Plaza de Armas (center of town) or along Norzagaray Street, which comes down Cristo Street near Convento Los Dominicos, to Plaza San José. Riders can re-board as often as they wish. The free trolley service is also available in the Isla Verde beachfront area, running from Punta Las Marias to the public beach and recreation facilities.

Ferries
A daily ferry service departs from Pier 2 in Old San Juan every 30 minutes taking visitors from San Juan to Cataño, across the San Juan BAdditionally, the two off-shore islands of Vieques and Culebra (located east of Fajardo) are served by passenger and cargo ferries that run at regular intervals daily from Fajardo.
