To establish Puerto Rico as an important player in the convention industry, an ambitious project is being
developed to fulfill the needs of this growing industry: the Puerto Rico Convention Center District. It is
located in the San Juan Peninsula of what once use to be a US Naval Base, Isla Grande, next to Miramar,
Condado, and Old San Juan.
The Convention District consists of 113 acres of prime land under the administration of the Puerto Rico
Convention Center District Authority, a public corporation established by law. The project is structured as
a public/private partnership, with government investment yielding to greater private investment into the
economy and supporting its success. The District will include hotels, retail stores, residences and recreational
areas. The modern and cutting edge Convention Center will be the drawing force for a new era of economic
and tourist development in Puerto Rico. The Authority also administers the Coliseo of Puerto Rico
José Miguel Agrelot.
